Select the tab for the type of search. Each tab has everything you need to do to perform that type of search.

(Results of more than 500 will not return images.)

This search will show only accessions that have material that may be requested, including those not seasonally available.
You may list accessions with separators (commas or semicolons, as shown below) or by entering them on separate lines, such as

0PI 703256'Scarlet Surprise'Malus domestica (Suckow) Borkh. GENNot Available2022Scions collected at Home Orchard Society scion exchange in March 2014. Unconfirmed identity. Topworked onto a tree in my orchard, and the small side-limb has not yet fruited. -- Joseph Postman 2139707PI 703256
1PI 703251'Porter’s Perfection'Malus domestica (Suckow) Borkh. GEN2022CultivarPorter Lombard imported a number of traditional cider apples from England for evaluation at OSU. I’ve wondered if he included this cultivar because the name was the same as his. I have not yet compared fruit to descriptions. Scions received from Dr. Porter Lombard at the Oregon State University Experiment Station in Medford, OR in the early 1990s. -- Jospeh Postman 2139702PI 703251

3PI 703248'Knobbed Russet'Malus domestica (Suckow) Borkh. GEN2021CultivarGrafted tree purchased from Southmeadow Fruit Gardens in Michigan about 2001 -- Joseph Postman 2139699PI 703248
4PI 703249'Bietigheimer'Malus domestica (Suckow) Borkh. GEN2021CultivarA local Kings Valley man exhibited a very large fruit at a Home Orchard Society fruit show in October 1992 that won the “large apple contest”. He had picked the fruit in the King’s Valley area, but would not reveal the location of the tree. I was told by a mutual friend where the tree was located and collected scions in April 1993. The tree that I propagated does indeed produce very large fruit. An elderly member of Home Orchard Society at the 1992 fruit show suspected this was the old German cultivar ‘Bietigheimer’ and it does seem to match the description. Scions collected from an old orchard tree, probably >100 years old near the intersection of Hwy 223 (Kings Valley Hwy) and Hoskins Road near Kings Valley, Oregon. -- Joseph Postman 2139700PI 703249
5PI 703250'Tompkin’s King'Malus domestica (Suckow) Borkh. GEN2021CultivarIdentity confirmed. Large, red, “oily” skin and very tasty fruit matches descriptions and images of Tompkin’s King. Scions received from the Worcester County (Mass.) Historical Society (now Tower Hill Botanic Garden) in the mid 1980s. -- Joseph Postman 2139701PI 703250
6PI 703252'Airlie Red Flesh'Malus domestica (Suckow) Borkh. GEN2021CultivarBill Schulz and I referred to this as ‘Airlie Red Flesh’ when we shared scionwood with others. Another local man, Louis Kimzey, propagated from the same tree and distributed it first as ‘Pink Pearl’ and later as ‘Hidden Rose’ (when the Airlie tree was found to be different from the ‘Pink Pearl’ available at that time from Southmeadow Fruit Gardens). Kimzey and his partner Eric Schwartz trademarked the name ‘Hidden Rose’ and tried to become the exclusive source of nursery trees. Another grower near Hood River, Oregon, who could not use the trademarked name ‘Hidden Rose’ marketed his trees and apple products under the name ‘Mountain Rose’. I visited and collected scions in the early 1990s from the original source tree with my neighbor and local amateur fruit grower Bill Schulz. Bill knew the location of the tree on an overgrown, abandoned homestead along Maxfield Creek Road near Airlie, Oregon. -- Joseph Postman 2139703PI 703252
7PI 703253'Sheepnose'Malus domestica (Suckow) Borkh. GEN2021CultivarIdentity confirmed. The unusual shaped fruit matches published descriptions. Late Fall ripening with unimpressive fruit quality. Postman collected scions at the Home Orchard Society scion exchange in Portland, Oregon in March 1991. -- Joseph Postman 2139704PI 703253
8PI 703254'Newtown'Malus domestica (Suckow) Borkh. GEN2021CultivarLate fall ripening, yellow fruit is consistent with descriptions of Newtown. One of my favorite eating apples! Note: many ‘Newtown’ trees, especially ‘Green Newtown’ trees exhibit swollen-stem and flat-apple symptoms, which may be caused by Cherry rasp leaf virus. The scion with the blue label has some swollen areas, but this may also be from rust which was prevalent last year. Scions collected from an apple ‘teaching plot’ at the Oregon State University “Lewis Brown” Horticulture Farm in the mid 1980s. -- Joseph Postman 2139705PI 703254
9PI 703255'Duchess of Oldenburg'Malus domestica (Suckow) Borkh. GENNot Available2021CultivarIdentity confirmed. This very early season apple has distinctly striped fruit that is remarkably uniform in size in shape. Ripens in August here, 5-10 days after ‘Yellow Transparent’. Scions received from the Worcester County (Mass.) Historical Society (now Tower Hill Botanic Garden) in the mid 1980s. -- Joseph Postman 2139706PI 703255
