Environment description: Malus fusca were sampled on both sides of the road 500 meters down Mina Smith Road. Fruits were abundant on some of the shrubs, but finding 10 with sufficient fruits proved difficult. This area is close to habitation; some of the individuals sampled had characteristics indicative of domestic apples including larger fruits and leathery, apple-like leaves, and several old domesticated apple trees were found within a few hundred meters of the sampled trees. Associated species include Acer sp., Alnus rubra, Pseudotsuga menziesii and Rubus spp., amoung others.
