Environment description: Malus fusca were sampled growing along the edge of an abandoned agricultural filed at Ellmaker State Wayside. An old domesticated apple was found near the sampled fusca, and fusca seedlings growing near to the apple tree exhinited traits that could be indicative of hybridization, including leathery apple-like leaves and larger than normal fruit size. Some additional species include Acer macrophyllum, Pinus contorta, Pseudotsuga menziesii, and Rubus spp.
