Environment description: Malus fusca were sampled in a heavily vegetated sandy dune habitat just inland from the ocean. The large shrubs had many fruits. Recent developments and golf courses are located near to this site, but no evidence of domesticated apple were found. Additional associated species include Alnus rubra, Pinus contorta, Pseudotsuga menziesii and Rubus sp.
