Environment description: Malus fusca were sampled in the Beaver Creek State Natural Area, across the highway from Ona Beach State Oark. Trees/shrubs were sampled on both sides of the road, growing in a very wet, marshy habitat. No evidence of domesticated apple trees or hybridization was seen. Additional associated species include Alnus rubra, Pinus contorta, Rubus spectabilis, and Vaccinium ovatum.
