Environment description: Malus fusca were sampled from along both sides of hihway 10 miles west of Amanda Park Road. Almost no fruits were present, but leaves were collected since no human habitation or apple orchards were seen in the area and hybridization is unlikely at this site. Associated species include Acer circinatum, Gaultheria shallon, Picea sp., Rubus spp., Thuja plicata and Vaccinium parvifolium among others.
