Select the tab for the type of search. Each tab has everything you need to do to perform that type of search.

(Results of more than 500 will not return images.)

This search will show only accessions that have material that may be requested, including those not seasonally available.
You may list accessions with separators (commas or semicolons, as shown below) or by entering them on separate lines, such as
PI 651794
PI 651649
PI 651650
When searching a range of accessions, use the Advanced Search tab with the Accession Identifier Range criterion.

The more information you provide, the better the search will be.

Samples acquired had BRIX readings (3 reps of 5 fruits each) ranging from 9.2-17.2 for mature (black/soft) fruits with fruits generally less than 1.0" in length with average lengths of 0.5". Specimens numbers #1 and #9 had the highest average BRIX ratings of 16.5 and 17.2, respectively. All specimens with rather shiny, glabrous leaves on the upper surfaces with lobing variable throughout the canopy but generally higher lobing found on vigorous sprouts/shoots. Majority of specimens sampled were less than 60' in height. The largest specimen sampled was approximately 18" DBH with the average specimen sampled measuring approximately 10" DBH.2191609Ames 36328

M. rubra specimens noted ranged in size from 1"-23" inches DBH with some of the tallest specimens reaching 70' in height. The largest specimen sampled (172-13) measured approximately 23" DBH. Estimated hundreds, perhaps a thousand specimens noted within the park with very little representation of hybrids or Morus alba. Representation of M. rubra outside of park boundaries is near completely absent and the presence of hybrids and M. alba is extremely evident. Soluble solids content from fruits collected in the wild ranged from 19.0-32.9 degrees Brix. This range of Brix values is likely a result of genetic diversity and also variation in maturity of fruits. Fruits selected for Brix measurements were black in color. The specimen sampled with the highest Brix value was 172-9. All M. rubra specimens noted were exhibiting determinate growth compared to local hybrids and M. alba, which were still actively growing with newly emerging leaves. 2138220Ames 35887

Oregon, United States Historic1996DONATED04/18/1986The following is information from a Descriptive Catalog published by the Chico Nursery Co. in 1911: A new everbearing Mulberry of large size, larger than the Lawton blackberry, which it greatly resembles. Color black; flavor tart, like a blackberry and not the insipid sweet of most of the Morus family, and preferred by many to a blackberry. The tree is sure bearer, strong grower, very hardy and has a tendency to weep and could almost be classed as a weeping tree, making the fruit easily gathered. A very desirable ornamental tree, as well as one of the hardiest and most abundant bearers. By far the most desirable of the mulberries. Per Ronald Smith, Portland, OR, 3/20/1996: "Noire of Spain is listed in an old Nursery Catalog which I saw at Rich's Nursery here [Portland, OR] on Cornell Rd. I believe the original tree is still there. Fruits nice size and very tart until ripe and then very good. Tends to fall off tree soon as ripe. Seems to be compatible with Russian rootstock for grafting. My tree is about 20 feet high. This tree is supposed to be a more dwarfish grower but mine got quite large. Pruning seems to invigorate it greatly."1565514DMOR 49
