| 55 | PI 690020 | DH66OP | Festuca arundinacea Schreb. | Oklahoma, United States | NLGRP | | Not Available | 2019 | DEVELOPED | | | | | | Genetic material | DH66OP represents a hexaploid (2n=6x=42) endophyte free, tall fescue genetic stock that possesses a L. multiflorum cytoplasm that induces or enhances rhizome formation in tall fescue, meadow fecue and festulolium. It is being released as a genetic stock. DH66OP is the result of hybridizing Nanyro c.v. tall fescue to a L. multiflorum, dihaploid including line IL3. Nanyro tall fescue is a non-rhizomatous, endopphyte free cultivar. DH66OP represents a broad based genetic stock possessing a L. multiflorum cytoplasm that can enhance or induce rhizome formation across various genotypes. DH66OP is indistinguishable form other continenral, hexaploid type tall fescue germplasm and should be treated as a genetic resource for the transfer of L. multiflorum cytoplasm to other festuca species. Selection within or backcrossing by superior festuca genotypes will result in cytoplasm transfer and subsequent inducement or enhancement of rhizome formation in the offspring. The release of DH66Op allows plant breeders to trnasfer the L. multiflorum cytoplasm to additional festuca genotypes and recover individuals the exhibit/express rhizomes. The maintenance of DH66OP is best accomplished through sibbling as tall fescue is gnerally considered a self-incompatible species. | 1982899 | PI 690020 |

| 63 | PI 686938 | 'Chisholm' | Festuca arundinacea Schreb. subsp. arundinacea | Oklahoma, United States | NLGRP | | Not Available | 2018 | DEVELOPED | | | | | | Cultivar | Chisholm summer-dormant (SD) tall fescue is a forage type, synthetic cultivar developed from phenotypic selections for persistence made in southern Oklahoma and north Texas from the cultivar Flecha. Chisholm tall fescue is a Mediterranean or SD ecotype characterized by increased growth in mild winters and dormancy during hot and dry summers. Chisholm differs from the Mediterranean cultivar Flecha by possessing a later heading date (4 days) and a more erect growth habit. Plants of Chisholm have wider flag and tiller leaf widths of 0.4 and 0.8 mm, respectively when compared to plants of Flecha. When tested in small plot grazing trials for persistence in southern Oklahoma and north Texas from 2011–2016, final stands of Chisholm were 23% greater than Flecha and the Mediterranean cultivar Prosper when averaged across all locations, which was the justification for release. Chisholm is capable of producing high quality pasture from autumn through spring, thereby providing a perennial forage option for livestock producers to complement or replace the planting of winter annuals such as dual-purpose wheat. | 1957874 | PI 686938 |

The foliage is fine textured and densely tufted (cespitose). Morphological diversity among the five parent populations appears moderately high. Leaves are sometimes glaucous (covered with a whitish waxy coating) and their color varies throughout a wide spectrum of green and pale blue for this germplasm. Plants rarely flower until the second full growing season. Stem color ranges from yellowish green to purple or red, turning mostly straw colored at seed maturity. Mean culm (plant) heights varied from 73 to 82 cm (29-32 in) and mean basal width ranged from 10 to 14 cm (3.9-5.5 in). The panicle (seed head or inflorescence) is loosely open to moderately contracted and 5-20 cm (2-8 in) long; branches are erect to slightly spreading. The spikelets are 9-13.5 mm (0.35-0.53 in) long with 4-6 florets. Glumes are exceeded by the upper florets. Lemma awns are 2-5 mm (0.08-0.20 in) long. Leaf sheaths are closed for less than one half their length and collars are glabrous; ligules are 0.1-0.5 mm (0.004-0.02 in) long; blades are 0.5-1.2 mm (0.02-0.05 in) in diameter | 1903501 | PI 665690 |

Alexeev | Oregon, United States | W6 | | | 2012 | COLLECTED | PRE 2003 | | | | | Wild material | Northwest Maritime Germplasm Roemer's fescue is a native cool season, long-lived perennial bunchgrass with mostly basal foliage. The foliage is fine textured and densely tufted (cespitose). The plants of this germplasm are generally larger, leafier, and more robust than many other populations. The two parental populations differ in some of their morphological traits. For example, parent plants from Cummins Creek are bluer and their leaves are typically glaucous (covered with a whitish waxy coating) while parent plants from Cape Perpetua are greener. The percent of each type can vary within and among generations and intermediate types are found. Plants rarely flower until the second full growing season. Stem color ranges from yellowish green, to purple or red, turning mostly straw colored at seed maturity. The stiff, erect, smooth culms grow 87-110 cm (34-43 in) tall and the basal width is 16-17 cm (6.3-6.7 in) on average. The botanical traits for the two populations that form Northwest Maritime Germplasm Roemer's fescue fall within the taxonomic limits of Festuca roemeri var. roemeri (Wilson, 2007). The foliage is fine textured and densely tufted (cespitose). Morphological diversity among the seven parent populations appears moderate. Leaves are mostly glaucous (covered with a whitish waxy coating) and predominately pale blue, though color also varies from pale green to grey-blue and purple-blue within this germplasm. Plants rarely flower until the second full growing season. Stem color ranges from yellowish green to green or reddish purple, turning mostly straw colored at seed maturity. Mean culm (plant) heights varied from 99 to 106 cm (39-41 in), the tallest on average among five selected germplasms. Mean basal width ranged from 11 to 15 cm (4.3-5.9 in). The botanical traits for the seven populations that form Puget Germplasm Roemer's fescue fall within the taxonomic limits of Festuca roemeri var. roemeri (Wilson, 2007). Endophyte transmission and viability in PDF 584 seed has been consistently high. Average daily gain of animals grazing PDF 584 has been twice that of animals grazing tall fescue infected with a toxic endophyte. Released due to its broad adaptation to the south central USA, improved persistence and forage yield. In southern OK, PDF 584 heads out in late April to mid-May and is less susceptible to stem rust than Jesup MaxQ. Audubon demonstrated a mean plant height to the inflorescence tip from 55.3 to 59.9 cm; mean panicle length from tip of panicle to panicle node ranged from 10.0 to 11.2 cm; flagleaf length ranged from 7.3 to 9.0 cm; flagleaf width was 2.9 to 3.0 mm; lemma length (straight) ranged from 5.5 to 5.8 mm. Audubon appears most similar to Cindy, however, Audubon has a shorter lemma length. Audubon has shown good turf quality in the shade in U.S. trials. It has exhibited good resistance to red thread [caused by Laetisaria fucimormis (McAlpine)], melting out [caused by Bipolaris sorokiniana (H. sorokinianum Sacc. in Sorokin) (syn. H. sativum Pammel, C.M. King and Bakke)] and summer patch [caused by Magnaporthe poae Landschoot and Jackson]. Audubon exhibits good mowing quality, early spring green up and dark rich fall color. Audubon is recommended for home lawns, parks, and golf course roughs and out-of-play areas where strong creeping red fescue is suitable for turf. | 1691266 | PI 641951 |

Maintains good summer density, persistence and exceptional tolerance to drought and heat induced stress. The lack of the toxic endophyte should result in the reduction or omission of fescue toxicosis in grazing livestock. The early vigor and spring forage productivity make Nanryo a useful tall fescue cultivar for graze-plus-grain grazing system where livestock is rotated in the early spring from a dual purpose wheat pasture to a cool-season grass forage pasture in order to obtain a grain crop and continue feeding grazing livestock. Has shown excellent turf quality in NTEP trials under high and medium maintenance. Has good regional adaptation in Northeast, Mid Atlantic, Mountain, Semi Arid, and Southern par tof the U.S. In these trials it has exhibited good resistance to drought, brown patch, (caused by Rhizoctonia solani), stem rust (caused by Puccinia graminis) and typhula blight (caused by Typhula incarnata). Maintains good turf quality under traffic stress. Has a finer leaf texture and a denser sward than many cultivars. Recommended for sports fields, home lawns, parks and golf course roughs where tall fescue is adapted for turf. | 1654349 | PI 634805 |

Murray | Idaho, United States | W6 | | | 2003 | DEVELOPED | PRE 04/07/2003 | | | | | Cultivar | Results from the 1998 NTEP Progress Report, 2001 shows improved in overall quality under medium-input conditions. In the same trial, was the darkest hard fescue in the trial. Also displayed improved fall % living ground cover and resistance to summer patch (Magnaporthe poae) and was more resistant than Osprey, Scaldis and Scaldis II. Most similar to Brigade. However, differs in several key morphological characteristics including length of culm from crown to flagleaf collar and flagleaf sheath length. Also has lighter weight seed than Brigade. This is an improved turf-type cv. with dark green leaves and a slower growing habit. Key attributes are good establishment, persistence, and presence of endophyte (Neotyphodium spp). With the endophyte comes improved resistance to diseases such as dollar spot (Sclerotinia homoeocarpa) as well as resistance to surface-feeding insects like billbug (Shenophorus spp). Uniform and stable. Recommended for home lawns, roadsides, parks and golf course out-of-play areas where hard fescue is suitable for turf. Can be grown in full sun or full shade. Low growth habit make it suitable for unmowed lower maintenance conditions. | 1645231 | PI 633426 |

Exhibited excellent performance at medium and low maintenance and very good performance at high maintenance when tested in the 1998 NTEP fine fescue test sponsored by the National Turfgrass Evaluation Program. Has medium-dark green color and medium shoot density compared to other strong creeping red fescue evaluated in the 1998 NTEP fine fescue test. Also exhibited excellent resistance to summer patch (caused by the fungus Magnaporthe poae), very good resistance to red thread (caused by the fungus Laetisaria fuciformis), and good resistance to leaf spot (caused by the fungus Drechslera dictyoides). Useful for lawn, parks and conservation areas in temperate climates where a medium-low maintenance fine fescue stand is desired. Should perform well in mixtures with Kentucy bluegrass and improved turf-type perennial ryegrass cultivars with similar color and growth habit. | 1640177 | PI 631471 |
