Description:
Developed from maternal progenies of 21 lines. Germplasm sources are 81% Simplot experimental lines collected in old cemeteries around the U.S., and 19% from old Medalist America experimentals. During early stages of development of 21 lines, open-pollinated selections from spaced-plant nurseries were used. In later stages of development, isolated synthetic polycrosses were used. Initial selection criteria for progenies were similar maturity, parentage, moderate plant height, fine leaf texture, darker leaf color, tolerance to stem rust, and increased seed yield.
