(Results of more than 500 will not return images.)

This search will show only accessions that have material that may be requested, including those not seasonally available.
You may list accessions with separators (commas or semicolons, as shown below) or by entering them on separate lines, such as

0PI 701909'L-74X'Leymus hybr.Utah, United StatesW6Not Available2023DEVELOPEDBasin wildrye is somewhat indeterminate and shatters its seed. To avoid shattering losses, growers tend to harvest basin wildrye seed prior to maximal physiological maturity. To resolve the intersecting problems of floral indeterminacy and seed shattering, USDA-ARS released the L-74X basin wildrye X creeping wildrye germplasm on August 26, 2021. While L-74X has a narrow genetic base due to a biparental cross in its history, it can be used to introgress the non-shattering recessive sh6 allele of creeping wildrye (2n = 4x = 28) into 4x basin wildrye and closely related 4x Leymus species. L-74X originated with hybridization between 4x populations of basin wildrye and creeping wildrye, while eight generations of recombination and natural selection restored fertility to the interspecific hybrid. Intentional selection led to fixation of the sh6 allele. Averaged across two years, shattering genotypes (Sh6/sh6) averaged 19.4% greater (P < 0.05) seed yield per spike 23 days after pollination (DAP), but by 95 DAP non-shattering genotypes (sh6/sh6) averaged 167% greater (P < 0.05) seed yield per spike. Germination increased from 72.1% at 23 DAP to 86.4% at 95 DAP. The sh6 allele allows seed growers to delay seed harvest, concomitantly reducing shattering losses and improving physiological seed quality2141276PI 701909
1PI 688276LECI.octo.2Leymus cinereus (Scribn. & Merr.) Á. Löve W62018Wild materialSeeds from octoploid and tetraploid wild plants from 110 populations were collected on public lands in the intermountain West in the fall of 2009.  Seed zones were developed as described by Johnson and Vance-Borland (https://www.fs.fed.us/wwetac/threat-map/seedZones/doc/Johnson_2016_basin_wildrye.pdf).  Seeds from 106 of the original populations, representing 12 seed zones, were planted for regeneration in 2016.  Populations from each seed zone were planted together in plots 300 feet long and populations from each ploidy level (octoploid or tetraploid) were allowed to freely cross with one another.   Each crossing block was separated from others by at least 50 meters. The number of populations varied with each seed zone, and the number of plants from each population varied to fit the length of the plots.  Seeds from all plants were harvested in 2017 and bulked to form each seed zone accession.  For LECI.octo.2 there were 9 populations from basin wildrye seed zone 2 and approximately 42 plants from each population.  The seed zone map may be found at:  https://www.fs.fed.us/wwetac/threat-map/seedZones/doc/LECI%20seed%20zones%20Fig%202.pdf1963394PI 688276

Utah, United StatesW62004DEVELOPEDPRE 03/17/2004CultivarEvaluated in the Northern Plains Regional Trials at Bluecreek, UT; Green Canyon, UT; Mead, NE; Sidney, NE; Mandan, ND; and Miles City, MT for dry matter forage production, initial stand and persistence. Produced significantly more dry matter forage (3026 kg ha-1) than cultivars Prairieland (2394 kg ha-1) and Pearl (2247 kg ha-1) when combined over six locations and three years. Superior initial stands over other Altai and Basin wildrye cultivars in the NPA trials except for Mead Nebraska. More persistent than Prairieland and Pearl after four years. Seedling vigor, as indicated by seedling emergence from a deep planting depth (7.6 cm), better than Prairieland and comparable to Pearl. Individual seed weight comparable to Prairieland and Eejay, but significantly lighter than Pearl. Approx. 138,888 seeds per kg at 100% purity. Significantly taller, with longer flag leaves that are oriented higher on the culm than Prairieland, Eejay, and Pearl. Also wider flag leaves and longer inflorescences. Dodecaploid (2n-12x-84) and has the same ploidy level as the commercially available cvs. Prairieland, Eejay, and Pearl. The neighbor-joining tree demonstrated that all but one of the 24 Mustang genotypes group together relative to Prairieland, Eejay, and Pearl. The E.ACAG//M.CTTG primer combination distinguished Mustang from the other cultivars.1653446PI 634756

Cross pollinating and behaves meiotically as a segmental autoallopolyploid with multiple copies of the Ns and Xsm genomes from Psathryostachys and an unknown diploid progenitor. In environments where annual precipitation ranges from 400-500 mm, dry matter production exceeded the current Altai wildrye cultivars at mid August by 36% and at late November by 42%. Forage quality lower than the check cultivars throughout the year. However, increased dry matter yields more than compensated in available nutrient levels. Should be utilized as a standing forage for winter grazing.1613726PI 618816

404PI 434040'Shoshone'Leymus triticoides (Buckley) Pilg. Wyoming, United StatesW61979COLLECTEDSaline area along the Wind River, southern outskirts of RivertonCultivarShoshone beardless wildrye is a strongly rhizomatous, perennial grass adapted to wet, saline soil conditions. The rhizomes are covered with a dark brown papery coating, with few root hairs between root nodes. Once established either by seeding or sprigging, Shoshone is capable of spreading into even stronger saline soils. The hard seed coat, in part, creates both a physical and physiological seed dormancy, requiring that the seed be planted only in the late fall or winter. Wet, cold conditions are necessary to trigger germination. Shoshone has a shorter stature of 60-100 cm and is leafier than the native beardless wild rye. The majority of the leaves are basal or low on the seed-bearing culm. Leaves are light green to a yellowish-green. The seed-head of Shoshone are more compact with much shorter lemma awns. The seed of Shoshone does not shatter when mature, allowing direct-cut combining of seed. Shoshone has approximately 400 seeds per gram. 1328976PI 434040
