Perennial; height up to 100 cm; spikelet narrow, 8-25 cm long, spikelet set in 2 or 3; long, crouching underground sprouts - basal floral glumes on the spine usually are more or less pubescent, 7-12 ?? long, stem under spike naked, often rough due to aciculae.
