Per email from Elinor Goff, the Morris Arboretum received seed of H. vanfleetii from Smith College Botanic Garden in Northampton, MA on 3/8/1961 and grew 13 seedlings. Their last plant was dead as of September 1982. [Our plants have not been verified yet; should be checked to determine if they conform to the descriptions of this hybrid, which has intermediate flower diameter between the parental species, and may have other hybrid features. The seed origin of our plants raises potential questions about the fertility of the hybrid and the true background of this material. -SBL] | 2155536 | NA 24491 |
