Breeder: Institute for Horticultural Plant Breeding (IVT) P.O. Box 16 - 6700 AA Wageningen - The Netherlands. Tenira was selected in 1965 from a cross between: Redgauntlet x Gorella. Tested under IVT-65304 and introduced in 1973. Entered for Breeders' Rights in 1972, received in 1974. In trade under licence.Most important characters: Tenira is a midseasonal to fairly late, productive outdoor variety for the fresh market. Ripens at about the same time as Redgauntlet and Sivetta. Compared with the latter, the productivity is about on the same level, the fruits are equally large but firmer, of better keeping quality, more intensive red and of better flavour. Plants sturdy, compact, erect. Fairly high chilling requirement. Flowering midseason. Stamens of the first flowers moderately developed, of the later flowers good. Ripening season: midseason to fairly late. Fruits large to fairly large, regular conical, shining red, with yellow, slightly raised seeds. Flesh very firm, not liable to bruise, and consequently of good keeping quality, red, juicy, of good flavour. Difficult to cap. Easy to pick with cap.Susceptibility for diseases: Some resistance to grey mold, verticillium wilt and red core.CPRO-DLO
