Select the tab for the type of search. Each tab has everything you need to do to perform that type of search.

(Results of more than 500 will not return images.)

This search will show only accessions that have material that may be requested, including those not seasonally available.
You may list accessions with separators (commas or semicolons, as shown below) or by entering them on separate lines, such as
PI 651794

1PI 686875Mespilus germanica var. ApyranaMespilus germanica L. FranceCORFruitNot Available2017COLLECTEDCloneDuhamel du Monceau (arb. fruit, 1768), described the "seedless medlar" and says it is preferred as being more delicate and of a softer texture than the common kind. Noisette (Man. du Jard. 1829) speaks of it as a singular fruit, but small and of mediocre quality. Don ( Gard. dict. 1832) mentions the stoneless medlar as bearing a small fruit of little merit, and Loudon (Hort.) gives the same description. In 1880 a French nursery catalogue (Transon Bros. Orleans, France) advertises a variety of medlar under the name of "Stoneless". -- E.L. Sturtevant. 1890. Memoirs of the Torrey Botanical Club.1946872PI 686875

62NA 87341'Monstrueuse d'Evreinoff'Mespilus germanica L. NANot Available2022CultivarFull name as recorded at the U.S. National Arboretum: Mespilus germanica 'Monstrueuse d'Evreinoff'. Received as Mespilus germanica 'Sultan'. Plants donated by Gerit Quealy, Shakespeare expert and author of the book _Botanical Shakespeare_. Gerit’s favorite Shakespearian botanical reference is medlar, because ''it is a fruit fraught with metaphor.'' Grafted plants purchased by the donor from Raintree Nursery were sent directly from the nursery, whose listing indicates that their material was obtained from the USDA's National Clonal Germplasm Repository in Corvallis, Oregon. Further record details were obtained from the record of PI-660794 (CMES 25). Corvallis received its initial scionwood of the cultivar in March 1991 from Dr. Stephen J. Wertheim of Profstation voor de Fruitteel in the Netherlands. Plants of NA 87341 were received grafted onto OHxF87 (semi-dwarf, although the dwarfing effects on already-small medlar might not be the same as for pear) rootstock. According to a USDA genetic study, 'Sultan' is indistinguishable from and a synonym of 'Monstrueuse d'Evreinoff'. See: K. Schaeffer et al.
