Environment description: Edges of swamps; wet peat soil.

Associated species: Acer rubrum, Alnus incana, Amelanchier sp., Betula alleghaniensis, Betula papyrifera, Cornus sericea, Dryopteris sp., Fraxinus americana, Ostrya virginina, Picea glauca, Salix petiolaris, Spiraea alba, and Viburnum lentago.
