Narrative
This is a unique Aronia arbutifolia, being intermediate between the species and A. x prunifolia. Fruit ripening (in cultivation in central Iowa) is earlier than typical A. arbutifolia but later than A. x prunifolia and fruit color is dark red. Growth habit is semi-upright-vase shaped with minimal suckering. Based on AFLP data, Brand et al. 2022 found this accession to be most genetically similar to A. x prunifolia despite the red fruit color. Further research on this accession is warranted.
