Berger (PI 541359). -Originated in San Diego County, California, by an unknown woman. First announced in print in 1926 by Luther Burbank. Bud mutation discovered in 1925. Fruit: large; apple-shaped; skin greenish-yellow, slightly tough, numerous russet dots; flesh pure white, firm, texture fine, very good; ripens last of September and into October. -- Brooks and Olmo Register of Fruit and Nut Varieties. -- A large pear shaped like a big apple or a quince; color greenish-yellow, with numerous russet dots and spots here and there. Skin slightly tough. Ripens last of September into October. Flesh pure white, firm and exceedingly fine texture and grain. Very delicious. Fruit solid; very heavy.
