Narrative
Unnamed seedling selection of the native American species P. mexicana-texana group. Originally 4 plants were received at the stations labelled PI 10285 P. mexicana. However the PI inventory lists PI 10285 as a P. chinensis which this is not. Buds were taken from 1 of the original trees and budded on a P. atlantica rootstock so it is not rootstock. This is of interest for its vigor and for its leaf coloring in the spring before growth starts. It is a semi evergreen tree holding its leaves overwinter then coloring before shedding these old leaves and forming new ones.
