New York, United StatesW6FLOWER2003DEVELOPEDPRE 11/21/2003CultivarUpright, hay-type birdsfoot trefoil like Viking, but with earlier maturity than both Norcen and Viking. About 50% plants resistant to fusarium wilt, whereas other cultivars are susceptible. In most location-years in New York, higher forage yield than Norcen, and higher or equal yield to Viking. In fields with or without noticeable disease, plant stand after 2 years is higher than for either Viking or Norcen. Also has a darker orange-yellow colored flower compared to the yellow flowers of other cultivars.1650228PI 634338
5PI 633724ARS-2424Lotus corniculatus L. Missouri, United StatesW6Not Available2003DEVELOPEDPRE 06/30/2003Breeding materialBroadleafed birdsfoot trefoil that is a rhizomatous L. corniculatus germplasm that includes a L. uliginosus parentage. Such germplasm is important because it expands the germplasm resource that will allow plant breeders to develop rhizomatous cvs. with diverse attributes for different environments. Plants are variable in morphology. Semierect, with medium to large sized leaves and medium to coarse sized stems. Individual plants can be aggressive rhizome producers with large crowns developing from prolific rhizome production. Flower color varies from yellow to orange. Contains a large number of early-flowering plants. Condensed tannin concentration in foliage is similar to that found in L. corniculatus. It is cross-compatible with other L. corniculatus.1647029PI 633724

25PI 613539RG-BFTLotus corniculatus L. Oregon, United StatesW6Not Available2000DEVELOPED2000Genetic materialRapid reproductive regenerating and photoperiod insensitive autogamous birdsfoot trefoil genetic stock was developed from a single rapid-flowering clone resulting from irradiated seeds AG-S4 autogamous birdsfoot trefoil. Flowers after receiving approx. 1000 accumulated head units when grown under 10 hr light period with a light intensity averaging 410 mol m-2 s-1. There are no other known genetic sources of birdsfoot trefoil that flower under these conditions. Because it is photoperiod insensitive, it is also suitable for basic research involving flowering response. All plants are autogamous and do not require hand manipulations to produce seeds. Crosses readily and bi-directionally with other birdsfoot trefoil genotypes. Although when used as a female parent must be emasculated, and has a lower successful pod set percentage than when used as a male parent.1600045PI 613539

Contains a larger number of early-flowering plants than Noreen or AU Dewey. Produces rhizomes and is easily distinguished from other cultivars. Expression of rhizomes may not be found in every plant as rhizome production will be influenced by genetic segregation for the trait, management practices, and edaphic conditions.1506482PI 592503

A winterhardy variety, suitable for pasture, more upright, blooms 2-5 days earlier, and has larger seeds than 'Empire'. Superior to Empire and Dawn in spring vigor, recovery after cutting, winterhardiness; more upright than Dawn, usually yields more forage than Empire. Similar to Leo in growth habit, spring vigor, recovery after cutting, forage yield, and winterhardiness. Adapted wherever birdsfoot trefoil is adapted in the North Central States.1125051PI 600727
