Four old plants growing near the path in the Camellia Collection, bed 3; three of them were first shown as simply "China-fir" on the 1976 Camellia Collection map for Sect. D, and were again mapped without numbers in 1992, and are likely older (some "China fir" were on maps from 1976 and possibly earlier, but it isn't clear if they are the same plants.) Based on old card records, there is a reasonable chance that these are either NA 1443 (four plants received from Verhalen Nursery, Scottsville, Texas in 1940) or NA 2960 (five plants received from Mecklenburg Nursery, Charlotte, North Carolina in 1943). Locations weren't noted for either of these, but both were still alive in 1959 according to a list of living conifers at USNA produced by Skip March.
