Select the tab for the type of search. Each tab has everything you need to do to perform that type of search.

(Results of more than 500 will not return images.)

This search will show only accessions that have material that may be requested, including those not seasonally available.
You may list accessions with separators (commas or semicolons, as shown below) or by entering them on separate lines, such as
PI 651794
PI 651649
PI 651650
When searching a range of accessions, use the Advanced Search tab with the Accession Identifier Range criterion.

The more information you provide, the better the search will be.

123WLP 2484AS/TO/2021/017/117Thuja occidentalis L. Illinois, United StatesNAHABITAT2021COLLECTED08/26/2021State Route 71 along Illinois River located approximately 1.30 miles southwest of Ottawa, T33N R3E SW1/4 NE1/4 Sec. 1541.33211800, -88.86347300146Roadside at top of limestone cliff above Illinois River.Wild materialThuja occidentalis is a medium sized, evergreen tree that is native throughout northeastern North America stretching from Minnesota to Maine with scattered distributions in the Appalachian Mountains. In Illinois, Northern White Cedar was formerly listed as a state-threatened species, but delisted in 2004 (Mankowski 2012) and is localized to bluffs and cliffs of St. Peter sandstone and rocky outcroppings. Elsewhere, the species is abundant in sphagnum peat swamps, lake shorelines, and moist woods. This accession was collected on the southwest edge of the species native range and is one of the southern-most, known native localities in Illinois and thus may contain genetics for heat and drought tolerance. Genetics for this accessions were collected from two areas separated by approximately 6.50 miles. 2120343WLP 2484

196NA 35045'Lutea Nana'Thuja occidentalis L. NANot Available1972CultivarFull name as recorded at U.S. National Arboretum: Thuja occidentalis 'Lutea Nana'. This cultivar now has many different (incorrect) name variants and spelling variants of those variants; its primary synonyms at present are 'Sudworth Gold' and 'Sudworth', with some listing it as 'Pumila Sudworth', although some sources indicate (probably in error) that 'Pumila Sudworth'/'Pumila Sudworthii' is a separate, globose-shaped dwarf from 'Sudworth Gold'/'Sudworth'. This latter interpretation may have arisen from very young plants of 'Lutea Nana' that had not yet developed a typically pyramidal habit. The names probably originated in confusion following a misreading of USDA Miscellaneous Circular 92 by George B. Sudworth, "Check List of the Forest Trees of the United States: Their Names and Ranges" in which he listed Thuja occidentalis lutea humils Sudworth, citing his own earlier work. In USDA Bulletin No. 14, Nomenclature of the Arboresecent Flora of the United States, Sudworth published the following: "Thuja occidentalis lutea humilis nom. nov. Syn.--_Thuya occidentalis lutea nana_ Hort. ex Beissner, Handb. Nadelh., 41 (1891), not _Th. Sphaer. nana_ Hort. ex Gord. (1858), nor _Th. occid. recurva nana_ Hort. ex Carr. (1867)." Sudworth faild to cite Veitch's 1881 publication of Thuja occidentalis lutea nana, which is the basis for today's valid cultivar name 'Lutea Nana'. Material was apparently identified with this clone but probably was labeled 'Humilis Sudworth', dropping the word "Lutea" and adding the author citation "Sudworth" in error, and then became 'Pumila Sudworth', 'Pumila Sudworthii', and even(!) 'Pumila Sandwelli' as in our original record for NA 35045. This accession seems to match 'Lutea Nana' perfectly, and Laurence Hatch (who is credited with the name 'Sudworth Gold' by Welch [1993]) identified this accession as being identical to his 'Sudworth' ('Sudworth Gold'). -SBL 2017-12-19. This accession's card states that the material arrived grafted, but this is probably an error.2144494NA 35045
