Seed production is extremely rare and the presence of this species in native seed production nurseries or nursery trade is non-existent (2024). Small dark-blue flowers generally appear (central Iowa) in early June. Flower stalks, bracts, leaves, and stems are densely covered in silvery hairs giving the plant a silver, white appearance.
