| 1 | PI 652949 | 'HAMMOCK' | Eremochloa ophiuroides (Munro) Hack. | Georgia, United States | S9 | | Not Available | 2008 | DEVELOPED | | | | | | Cultivar | The purpose of this breeding program was to enlarge the diversity of clonally propagated warm season perennial turf varieties grown in Florida s specialty turfgrass market and identify a centipedegrass variety that would be acceptable as a regional variety for the subtropical and tropical regions of Florida, where centipedegrass is not typically grown. It was originally tested as breeding line BA-417, and Plant Patent Application No. 12/006,777 (Jan. 15, 2008) was submitted under said designation. Hammock was selected for two agronomic traits, including a more refined leaf structure and quality along with a faster rate of crop establishment. Hammock produced leaves that were significantly shorter and generally narrower than the standard varieties, and received superior summer-turf quality ratings. It also produced a fresh leaf color that ranged from 2.5GY (5-6/2) to 7.5GY (5-6/4) as determined by comparing vegetative samples to the Munsell Color Chart. In southern Florida, Hammock exhibited a faster rate of crop establishment than the standard varieties, and typically covered the plots a month earlier. This pattern was repeated in northern Florida. | 1751276 | PI 652949 |
| 2 | PI 604793 | 'TennTurf' | Eremochloa ophiuroides (Munro) Hack. | Tennessee, United States | | | Historic | 1998 | DEVELOPED | 1998 | | | | | Cultivar | Uniquely cold hardy and the only proven true cold hardy centipedegrass cultivar known and presently available. Evaluated at 120m, 230m, 290m, and over 600m elevations with practically 100% sod survival even at winter temperatures from -17 to -31 deg. C. Diploid (2n=18) lawntype turfgrass well suited to poor soils, a low pH (4.5 to 5.5), and low fertility (only 1 pound N/1,000 sq. ft./year). Although adaptable throughout the southern region of U.S., particularly advantageous for use in the upper south and at higher elevations. Color light green, normal growing height, and has good resistance to disease and insects. Best use is full sun, but will tolerate light shade. Viable seed but is being released only for vegetative plantings to protect the genetic factors contributing to its cold tolerance. | 1563891 | PI 604793 |
| 3 | PI 594912 | 'TifBlair' | Eremochloa ophiuroides (Munro) Hack. | Georgia, United States | S9 | | Not Available | 1996 | DEVELOPED | | | | | | Cultivar | Quality, color, and greenup characteristics similar to common centipedegrass under favorable growing conditions. Grows more rapidly, more vigorous, and better quality than common centipedegrass. Growth reduced 5% on a soil with pH 4.3 compared to pH 5.2, while growth of common centipedegrass reduced 35% on the same soils. Produces more stolons that grow faster and more leaves than common centipedegrass. First seed-propagated commercial centipedegrass cultivar with a known pedigree. | 1521371 | PI 594912 |
