Select the tab for the type of search. Each tab has everything you need to do to perform that type of search.

(Results of more than 500 will not return images.)

This search will show only accessions that have material that may be requested, including those not seasonally available.
You may list accessions with separators (commas or semicolons, as shown below) or by entering them on separate lines, such as

125NA 84799NA 84799Chrysanthemum marginatum (Miq.) N. E. Br. NANot Available2023Cultivated materialFull name as recorded at U.S. National Arboretum: Chrysanthemum x marginatum. Most masses of NA 51397, Chrysanthemum pacificum, have been taken over and supplanted by seedlings from outcrossing of the original accession (and possibly its seedlings, by now) with other garden chrysanthemums and now display a mixture of different colors and sizes of inflorescence. All have significant ray florets ranging in size from 5-6 mm long to several centimeters in length, ranging in color from cream to white to pink. -SBL2157812NA 84799
126NA 87309(hybrid)Chrysanthemum hybr.NANot Available2023Cultivated materialFull name as recorded at U.S. National Arboretum: Chrysanthemum (hybrid). Previously thought to be C. indicum NA 62691 through most of 2022, but do not closely resemble any of our wild-collected C. indicum, as they have larger, later flowers and thicker leaves with generally more abaxial indumentum. Later it was discovered that where 62691-H was labeled and mapped, there had actually been 58300-L (C. japonense) recorded around the year 2000, and this seems to be what we have now. Of the two remaining qualifiers that were probably hybrids of this species and not C. indicum, 87309-J has sharper teeth, thinner foliage with less indumentum, and smaller, earlier flowers--although they are still significantly later and larger than C. indicum. Probable hybrids, and various other Chrysanthemum taxa have been grown in the vicinity (C. x morifolium, C. pacificum, C. indicum), so it may be difficult to be sure of the background. These hybrids bear some resemblance to C. x marginatum, which may or may not be superficial. Qualifiers 87309-J and 87309-L are growing nearly adjacent in masses, with J being roughly between a Picea omorika and the road, and with L growing behind J and in front of a clump of Asimina triloba at the time of accessioning. Initial qualifier H was determined to likely be 58300-L, C. japonense, and the others are possibly its outcrossed offspring. Qualifier J (formerly part of 62691-J) has flower heads 11/16" to 3/4" across, with a slight sweet, spicy scent; its ray floret color has faded by time of observation, but either white or pinkish; it is found mostly on the south side of a Picea omorika at accessioning. Qualifier L (also formerly part of the group treated as 62691-J, but split due to evident differences) has flower heads about 1" across with yellowish-white ray florets that age to light pink; it has a fairly resinous/non-sweet mum floral scent. Qualifier L is growing south of the Asimina triloba at the time of accessioning. -SBL2155311NA 87309

138NA 77128(light yellow, fragrant selection)Chrysanthemum marginatum (Miq.) N. E. Br. NANot Available2006CloneFull name as recorded at U.S. National Arboretum: Chrysanthemum x marginatum (light yellow). Seedling (possibly, but unlikely, a sport) of C. pacificum /red selection/ (NA 63514-H) with light yellow ray florets - very distinct from pink-flowered form and other clones, and strongly fragrant with a honey-like scent. I found this in fall 2005 and watched one year to ensure sport stability. Plant (including its seed/sport-parent) is not pure C. pacificum. [Nomenclature updated in 2017 to reflect the truth of this situation; it is Chrysanthemum x marginatum, as demonstrated by the presence of ray florets. I originally considered this to be a sport, but given the number of differences from the parent accession, it is more likely a seedling crossed with a cultivated hybrid chrysanthemum in the garden. -SBL] Form received: division.2156958NA 77128

Reversion of 65069-H, displaying more typical species characteristics. [What typical species characteristics? Loss of ray florets? This material needs further investigation. The parent is a hybrid, therefore any progeny must be considered to be hybrid as well. 159NA 58300NA 58300Chrysanthemum japonense (Makino) Nakai NANot Available1987Cultivated materialFull name as recorded at U.S. National Arboretum: Chrysanthemum japonense. Hand-carried from Japan by Dr. Fred Meyer; entered into quarantine at Glenn Dale (Q# 26608), with four plants released to USNA in November 1987. From the planting near the bonsai museum's exit gate (observed fall 2022), this has very late flowers with heads 1.25" across and white ray florets; it also has a relatively strong, sweet, honey-like fragrance. This planting was for years mistaken as NA 62691-H, Chrysanthemum indicum, but doesn't resemble that species at all. Plants treated as divisions from NA 62691 (later accessioned as NA 87309) probably arose as hybrid seedlings from this taxon and accession, and not C. indicum. -SBL2146466NA 58300
