| 0 | PI 668119 | Dwarf GP | Gossypium hirsutum L. | Texas, United States | COT | | Not Available | 2013 | DEVELOPED | | | | | | Breeding material | The Dwarf GP is a four-parent population that was designed to introduce dwarfing genes into non-dwarf backgrounds. The Dwarf GP had short observed plant heights and a narrow range of values for most traits. Dwarf GP had a low lint index (4.85 g; range = 3.15-6.89 g), small boll size (3.56 g; range = 1.84-4.88 g), short fiber length (24.53 mm; range = 22.61-26.67 mm), and low micronaire (3.94 units; range = 2.5-5.4 units). Lint yield averaged 474 kg ha-1 (range = 178-871 kg ha-1), seed index averaged 9.91 g (range = 6.28-12.92 g), fiber strength averaged 311.9 kN m kg-1 (range = 217.7-399.1 kN m kg-1), and elongation averaged 6.62% (range = 5.1-7.6%). A negative relationship was detected between fiber upper half mean length and lint index (r = -0.245) while a positive relationship was seen between fiber strength and lint index (r = 0.363). Positive correlations were also observed between strength and micronaire (r = 0.282). No significant correlation was detected between lint yield and fiber strength or fiber length. Seed index was positively correlated with boll size (r = 0.490) and fiber strength (r = 0.387). Elongation was positively correlated with lint index (r = 0.563), boll size (r = 0.425), lint yield (r = 0.582), micronaire (r = 0.574), and fiber strength (r = 0.627). | 1910281 | PI 668119 |
| 1 | PI 668120 | Fiber GP | Gossypium hirsutum L. | Texas, United States | COT | | Not Available | 2013 | DEVELOPED | | | | | | Breeding material | The Fiber GP is a complex population developed from 24 parents with average to high fiber strength and short, medium, or long fiber length that flower during the summer at College Station, TX. Parentage included 19 high strength lines and five average strength lines. Nine lines had long fibers, five lines had medium length fibers, and ten lines had short fibers. This population had high variability in upper half mean fiber length (25.71 mm; range = 21.59-30.48 mm) and elongation (6.76%; range = 5.3-8.2%) but a narrow range of variability for fiber strength (310.47 kN m kg-1; range = 223.59-380.50 kN m kg-1), seed index (10.61 g; range = 7.92-13.60 g), and lint yield (502 kg ha-1; range = 232-834 kg ha-1). Micronaire averaged 4.38 units (range = 2.6-5.9 units), lint index averaged 5.15 g (range = 3.42-7.49 g), and boll size averaged 3.81 g (range = 2.05-5.81 g). The distribution of individual plant values for lint yield, boll size, lint index, and seed index in the Fiber GP was non-normal, providing evidence that selection for these traits could be effective. Positive correlations were observed between fiber strength and micronaire (r = 0.320), seed index (r = 0.372), and boll size (r = 0.244). No correlation was detected between lint yield and fiber strength or fiber length. Fiber length was positively correlated with seed index (r = 0.477) and negatively correlated with micronaire (r = -0.438). Elongation was positively correlated with lint index (r = 0.371), boll size (r = 0.471), lint yield (r = 0.513), micronaire (r = 0.631), and fiber strength (r = 0.501) but negatively correlated with upper half mean fiber length (r = -0.330). | 1910282 | PI 668120 |
| 2 | PI 668121 | Glandless GP | Gossypium hirsutum L. | Texas, United States | COT | | Not Available | 2013 | DEVELOPED | | | | | | Breeding material | The Glandless GP is a complex population developed from 22 parents having the homozygous recessive gl2gl2gl3gl3 genotype. This genotype produces a phenotype with no gossypol glands in the hypocotyl and cotyledons of the seed. This population had a large range of values for lint index (6.06 g; range = 3.79-8.19 g), seed index (10.39 g; range = 6.48-13.38 g), boll size (3.85 g; range = 1.57-6.99 g), micronaire (4.67 units; range = 2.7-6.1 units), and fiber strength (327.8 kN m kg-1; range = 234.4-459.9 kN m kg-1). Lint yield averaged 484 kg ha-1 (range = 136-863 kg ha-1), upper half mean fiber length averaged 25.96 mm (range = 23.11-30.73 mm), and elongation averaged 6.67% (range = 5.3-7.8%). Individuals were observed in this GP with high fiber strength up to 459.9 kN m kg-1. The `Del Cerro? parent would contribute to this as it is a high fiber strength germplasm (as good as Pima cultivars available at that time) developed from New Mexico Acalas in the 1980s. No correlation was detected between lint yield and fiber strength or fiber length. Seed index was positively correlated with fiber strength (r = 0.558) and fiber length (r = 0.270). Elongation was positively correlated with lint index (r = 0.538), seed index (r = 0.406), boll size (r = 0.476), lint yield (r = 0.604), micronaire (r = 0.683), and fiber strength (r = 0.396). | 1910283 | PI 668121 |
| 3 | PI 668122 | Race GP | Gossypium hirsutum L. | Texas, United States | COT | | Not Available | 2013 | DEVELOPED | | | | | | Breeding material | The Race GP is a complex population developed from 42 parents with high fiber strength and long fiber length among the cotton race stocks that are non-photoperiodic at College Station, TX. The cotton race stocks are a group of primitive accessions that were collected from the Mesoamerican center of morphological diversity of Upland cotton. These accessions are the original gene pool from which selections were made to develop modern cotton cultivars. This population had long fibers (26.57 mm; range = 22.86-30.48 mm) and a large range of lint yield values (580.78 kg ha-1; range = 201-1199 kg ha-1). For lint yield, values in the upper tail of the distribution included transgressive segregates that would suggest selection would be effective to improve lint yield in this population. Micronaire averaged 4.32 units (range = 2.8-6.0 units), fiber strength averaged 313.1 kN m kg-1 (range = 226.5-410.9 kN m kg-1), and elongation averaged 6.68% (range = 5.4-7.9%). Results of agronomic trait measurement showed that lint index averaged 5.31 g (range = 3.33-7.44 g), seed index averaged 10.92 g (range = 7.54-14.4 g), and boll size averaged 4.04 g (range = 2.04-5.98 g). Positive correlations were observed between strength and micronaire (r = 0.435). No correlation was detected between lint yield and fiber strength or fiber length. Seed index was positively correlated with fiber strength (r = 0.332). Elongation was positively correlated with lint index (r = 0.509), seed index (r = 0.372), boll size (r = 0.496), lint yield (r = 0.572), micronaire (r = 0.640), and fiber strength (r = 0.407) but negatively correlated with upper half mean fiber length (r = -0.361). | 1910284 | PI 668122 |
