| 0 | PI 660291 | 'Decade' | Triticum aestivum L. subsp. aestivum | Montana, United States | PVPO | | Not Available | 2010 | DEVELOPED | 2010 | | | | | Cultivar | Decade is a high-yielding, winterhardy, semi-dwarf hard red winter wheat cultivar adapted to eastern Montana and western North Dakota production environments. Decade has winter growth habit and prostrate juvenile plant growth. Foliage at boot stage is dark green with twisted flag leaves. Coleoptiles are white and anthers are yellow in color. The stem lacks anthocyanin and waxy bloom, expresses some hairiness on the upper internode, and is hollow-stemmed. The head of Decade is middense, oblong, and erect with white glumes at maturity. Kernels are red, intermediate in size, and hard-textured. In Montana, Decade has medium-early maturity, 163 d heading from 1 Jan. Decade is semi-dwarf (Rht B1b) and medium-short (77 cm, n=39). Winterhardiness of Decade is high. Decade is high-yielding with medium to high grain volume weight and high grain protein. Decade is susceptible to Russian wheat aphid (Diuraphis noxia Mordvilko), wheat stem sawfly (Cephus cinctus Norton), and Hessian fly [Mayetiola destructor (Say)]. Decade is resistant to stem rust (Puccinia graminis) and is postulated to carry the Sr24 gene for stem rust resistance. Decade is susceptible to leaf rust (Puccinia triticina) and stripe rust (Puccinia striiformis). Flour yield of Decade is intermediate, with relatively low flour ash content and relatively high flour protein. Decade has strong dough mixing characteristics with high mixing tolerance, high water absorption, and long mixing time. Baking qualities of Decade are within acceptable ranges with relatively high water absorption and excellent loaf volume. Decade has relatively high PPO content and average to poor Asian noodle brightness and color stability. | 1854084 | PI 660291 |
