Select the tab for the type of search. Each tab has everything you need to do to perform that type of search.

(Results of more than 500 will not return images.)

This search will show only accessions that have material that may be requested, including those not seasonally available.
You may list accessions with separators (commas or semicolons, as shown below) or by entering them on separate lines, such as

0PI 616854'Emily'Fragaria ×ananassa Duchesne ex Rozier England, United KingdomCORFRUITNot Available1996DEVELOPEDCultivarEmily is a new early June-bearer strawberry variety. It is the earliest strawberry variety, 5 days before Honeoye High Yield - at least as good as Elsanta. Emily offers a higher yielding and earlier season alternative to Honeoye for early production both in the field and under protection. The strawberry variety Emily was raised at Horticulture Research International East Malling from the cross Honeoye x Gea, made in 1988 by Dr David Simpson and Judi Bell. Selected in 1989 because of its high yield and very early harvest date, Emily (formerly EM426) was released to industry in 1995 following extensive trials. In trials at HRI East Malling the yield from Emily has been equivalent to or slightly above that of Elsanta and typically 30% higher than that for Honeoye. This is unusual as early season types are normally less productive than mid-season and late varieties. Fruit size is less than Elsanta particularly in the second year, when the bulk of the fruit falls in the medium size category (25-35mm). The berries have a very regular conical shape, a deep red colour, similar to Honeoye, and contrasting yellow achenes. The fruit has good skin strength and moderately firm flesh with a sharp flavour, similar to Honeoye. Approximately 5 days before Honeoye and 10 days before Elsanta for 50% harvest, Emily offers growers the chance to begin their strawberry production earlier than has been possible before. Open field production can now be brought forward to late May in favourable conditions, and further advanced by the use of protection. Plants are moderately vigorous with an erect habit and the fruit is well displayed. It is earlier flowering than Honeoye so there can be a danger of frost damage and this must be avoided to take advantage of the early yield. Runner production is good. Emily is resistant to powdery mildew (Sphaerotheca macularis) but is susceptible to wilt (Verticillhurn dahliae) so a soil test is recommended. With such an early peak in production Emily is an ideal dessert variety for starting the season. The well displayed fruit will make it ideal for PYO growers who will be able to begin business at least a week earlier.
