Alkaloid analysis was performed by the Dragondorf assay. Lupin seed was sampled onto Dragondorf paper and scored on a 0 to 5 scale, depending upon the pinkness of the ring that appears on the paper. A score of 0 indicates no pink in the ring, and no corresponding alkaloid. A score of 5 indicates a bright pink ring and a high level of alkaloid. Scores 1-4 indicate the relative intermediate levels of alkaloid. Details on this protocol are available from the curator of the collection.
