Narrative
WPL-BatDur2 is an allotetraploid that originates from the wild peanut relatives A. batizocoi K9484 PI 298639 and A. duranensis duranensis KSSc 38906 PI 497270. It has prostrate growth habit, with alternate branching pattern, Stem is purple at base and transitions into green moving apically, eliptic main stem leaves and obovate side stem leaves. Pubescence on abaxial leaf surface. Apical leaflet average length 53.62mm and width 40.10mm. Basal leaflet average length 51.06mm and 31.59mm width. Measurements taken from the first opened leaf from side branches. 55 days to anthesis. Yellow flowers. Pod somewhat reticulate with marked beak. Average seed dimensions: L=13.6mm, W=5.7mm, 100 seed weight= 18.14g. WPL-BatDur2 has strong resistance to rust and late leaf spot and moderate resistance to early leaf spot and Southern stem rot. Reference: Leal-Bertioli SCM, Hopkins M, Leverett J, Gonzales M, Tsai Y-C, Matusinec D, Tonnis B, Araujo ACG and Bertioli DJ. Description:
WPL-BatDur2: originates from the cross between the diploid peanut wild relatives A. batizocoi K9484 PI 298639 x A. duranensis duranensis KSSc 38906 PI 497270. Cuttings from the resulting diploid sterile hybrids were treated with 0.2% colchicine overnight. Newly induced, fertile and peanut-compatible allotetraploids were recovered from this treatment.
