R19C-1012 is a high-yielding, conventional maturity group Mid-IV (Relative maturity 4.6) soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] variety with improved flooding tolerance at the V2-V4 vegetative growth stages. It was developed and released by the University of Arkansas System – Division of Agriculture Research & Extension Center in 2024. R19C-1012 has an indeterminate growth habit, purple flowers, gray pubescence, brown pods, and seeds with an imperfect black hilum. From 2019 to 2023, R19C-1012 was evaluated across 40 irrigated environments, with an average grain yield of 4,302 kg ha-1, representing 93% and 99% relative yield of the Xtend® and non-Xtend® checks, respectively. Under flooding conditions at V2-V4 vegetative growth stages, R19C-1012 outperformed the checks with a relative yield advantage of +158%. Seeds of R19C-1012 contain 411.5 g kg-1 and 219.3 g kg-1 of protein and oil content on a dry weight basis, respectively, and weigh 12.9 g 100 seeds-1. It has resistance to brown stem rot and stem canker and has tolerance to sulfonylurea herbicides. R19C-1012 provides Mid-South U.S. growers resilience and flexibility in their cropping systems by mitigating yield losses under flooding conditions, while also offering seed cost savings. As a non-GMO soybean variety, it presents opportunities for high-value food markets with premium prices. Furthermore, R19C-1012 is a valuable genetic resource for soybean breeding programs focused on improving flooding tolerance.

Description:
R19C-1012 was derived from the cross S09-13635 × R11-328, made at the University of Arkansas System – Division of Agriculture Research & Extension Center during the summer of 2016. The female parent, S09-13635, is an indeterminate conventional germplasm line maturity group (MG) Early-V (relative maturity (RM) 5.0) developed from the cross LG04-6863 × S04-10364. LG04-6863, developed and released by the University of Missouri Agricultural Experiment Station, the USDA–ARS, and the Illinois Agricultural Experiment Station, and it originated from the cross ‘Rend’ × LG97-9486. S04-10364 is a breeding line developed by the University of Missouri Agricultural Experiment Station, from the cross Unspecified × AgriPro AP4882. The male parent, R11-328, is a determinate conventional soybean germplasm MG Late-IV (RM 4.9) developed in 2011 by the Arkansas Agricultural Experiment Station. R11-328 originated from the cross 5601T × R01-1762. 5601T is a conventional breeding line developed and released by the Tennessee Agricultural Experiment Station, and it is derived from the cross Hutcheson × TN89-39. R01-1762 is a conventional breeding line developed by the Arkansas Agricultural Experiment Station, originating from the cross Caviness × PI 592921.
