Environment description: Shade to part shade of a sandy, dry ridge [dune], well above the river with a range of evergreen and deciduous forest elements. Slope: 0 to 5 percent. Aspect: North.
Associated species: Pinus palustris; Aronia arbutifolia; Symplocos tinctoria; Vaccinium spp.
Comment: Broadleaved evergreen woody groundcover with extensive runners filling in an area of several hundred square feet. Plants growing to 12 inches tall. Many individuals sampled. Along the river, just below the dune where Pieris phillyreifolia is located, is Lilium iridollae growing in and along the water’s edge.
