Environment description: Level ground in full sun. Growing in organic, rich loam soil. Elevation: 2165 feet.

Comment: Two shrubs; height 1.3 m, spread 0.5 m. Exfoliating tan to brown bark. Leaves light to dark green, smooth (not scurfy), toothed. Fruit born on racemes, 3-4 mm wide. Seeds and one herbarium specimen collected from one plant. Photographed. [Originally] collected by Mr. Kamikawa on Kiajima Island. He took the ferry over with his bike and biked to collecting location. Only known to occur on three islands Kikajima, Amami ?shima and Tokunoshima Island. Plants were collected in either 2016 or 2017. Other Deutzia species present, so could be hybrid origin. Arboretum established in 2012.
