Narrative

Old trees growing in the Asian Collections at the U.S. National Arboretum, likely dating back to the beginning of the old GCA (Garden Club of America) collection planting of what was then called "Cryptomeria Valley." At least three old trees still exist in eastern bed AC-W-01 that have no clear records, and may never have been accessioned previously. They were only indicated on old GCA maps as "Cryp" without any further details. Old black-and-white photos from ca 1950 show them after apparently being installed as somewhat sizeable specimens. [NOTE: the initial three trees assigned this number were ascertained in June 2025 to belong to NA 3135, C. japonica 'Lobbii', which see.]
