Narrative
Deltabelle possesses a novel grain quality that is suitable for processing and use in the quick cooking brown rice market. It combines excellent yield and milling quality with improved lodging resistance. It was developed from the same cross as Hidalgo (PVP 20050051) and Cala (PVP200500103) using a modified pedigree breeding method augmented with marker assisted selection. In replicated yield trials it averaged 8014 lb/ac and is a semidwarf (96 cm) and is early maturing with an average flowering date of 85 days. It is less susceptible to lodging (6%) as compared to Hidalgo (20%). Deltabelle averaged 64% head rice yield the same as Cypress. The grain dimensions classify it as a standard long grain. Based on genetic markers and greenhouse inoculation tests Deltabelle possesses the Pi-km blast resistance gene which conveys resistance to races IB-54, IB-45, IH-1, and IG-1 and is susceptible to races IB-1, IB-49, IC-17, IE-1, and IE1k. In sheath blight inoculated nurseries it was moderately resistant (rated 5.1). The endosperm is nonglutinous and is covered by a light brown pericarp. It has amylose content approximately 13% and a high-intermediate alkali spreading value. Deltabelle has the same Waxy allele as its parent Pelde.

Comment:
some seed lots of domesticated rice may contain contaminants of a noxious weed hybrid-form that are not distinguishable by seed visualization, which is responsible for the rice-growing state's noxious-weed seed regulations indicated below
