Environment description: Mesic, mixed deciduous forest; east-running stream valley; cool, moist seep. Soil deep, rich, organic. Slope: 15 degrees. Aspect: Southeast.

Associated species: Acer davidii (laxiflora); Acer pictum subsp. mono [listed as A. mono]; Cornus kousa; Hydrangea aspera; undetermined (Lauraceae) [listed as Litsea/Lindera]; Tetracentron sinense; Tilia chinensis.
Comment: Tree, height 10 m; cut at 1 m and re-grown. Trunk basal diameter 62 cm. Bark grey. Leaves opposite, palmately lobed, 5-lobed, serrate margins; pubescence in veins beneath. Fruits: infructescences are terminal spikes of up to 12 pairs of samaras; each samaras in a pair nearly held at 180 degrees relative to the other; 4-5 cm long. Seeds collected from one plant. Four herbarium specimens collected; photographed. [Associated taxa recorded here as "undetermined (Lauraceae)" was documented as "Litsea/Lindera" in collection notes. -SBL]
