Environment description: Mixed upland, deciduous woods and open, remnant prairie.

Associated species: Celtis occidentalis, Juniperus virginiana, Solidago speciosa, Solidago altissima, Quercus velutina, Quercus macrocarpa, Quercus x beckyae, Quercus imbricaria, Salix humilis, Corylus americana (abundant), Zanthoxylum americanum, Juglans nigra, Toxicodendron radicans, Ostrya virginiana, Rubus, Panicum virgatum, Symphyotrichum oolentangiense, Rhus glabra, Prunus serotina, Prunus americana, and Rhus aromatica.
Comment: Numerous, scattered plants (75-100) growing on a prairie knoll and along woodland edges. At time of sampling (13 September) acorns were green and transitioning to yellow and estimated at approximately 3-7 days from peak maturity.

Comment: Recollection of only rhizomatous specimens, collected clonally. Specimens sampled ranged from 4 to 15 feet wide and 3 to 4.5 feet in height.
