Environment description: Mid slope (ranging from 10-30 degrees) to base of slopes and along all drainages and valleys of deciduous woods.

Associated species: Juglans nigra, Celtis occidentalis, Ostrya virginiana, Quercus muehlenbergii, Asimina triloba, Robinia pseudoacacia, Quercus velutina, Quercus macrocarpa, Symphoricarpos orbiculatus, Laportea canadensis, Vitis riparia, and Ageratina altissima
Comment: Sampled ten specmiens as fruits and additional specimens as leaf tissue only. Timing of collection was at peak fruit maturity. Fruits on some specimens were very black yet rather persistent, while other specimens with similar fruit color dropped readily with minimal disturbance. Coordinates provided refer to specimen 172-1. Coordinates for all mother trees sampled may be provided upon request. Specimens 172-10 and 172-14 are presumed hybrids based on bark and glossy leaf characters.
