Narrative
The 10-stalk mean stalk height (ground level to top visible dewlap, dewlaps form the hinge of the blade joint in sugarcane) of CP 11-1640 was 278 cm. The mean internode length of CP 11-1640 stalks at the fifth internode from the ground was 5.8 cm. Stalk diameter was measured at the middle of the second (25.8 mm), fifth (22.7 mm), and tenth (20.8 mm) internodes from the ground as well as at the middle of the hardened internode closest to the top visible dewlap (20.2 mm). CP 11-1640 exhibited a cylindrical shaped internode and a growth ring with a mean width of 2.76 mm at the fifth internode from the ground. The root band of CP 11-1640 was 6.04 mm wide. Bud furrows were absent. The buds of CP 11-1640 were yellow (2.5Y8/2). Buds of CP 11-1640 had shapes described as ovate bun with emarginated basal wing region at the fifth internode from the ground. The bud length and width means of the fifth bud from the bottom from five stalks of CP 11-1640 were 6.41 and 6.74 mm, respectively. Leaf sheath pubescence was Moderate, located top half of the leaf of the leaf sheath. CP 11-1640 is resistant to brown rust (caused by Puccinia melanocephala H. & P. Sydow), range rust (caused by Puccinia kuehnii E.J. Butler), leaf scald (caused by Xanthomonas albilineans Ashby, Dowson), and smut (caused by Ustilago scitaminea (Sydow & P. Sydow) and moderately resistant to Mosaic, susceptible to ratoon stunt (caused by Leifsonia xyli subsp. xyli Evtsuhenko et al.).

CP 11-1640 was selected from a polycross of CP 01-2390 × unknown (Cross No.: X08-1190) made at Canal Point, Florida in January 2008. The female parent, ‘CP 01-2390’, was an experimental clone selected from the cross of CP 94-1528 × CP 95-2318. The male parent was unknown because of the polycross.
