Locality: Little River Canyon National Park, DeKalb and Cherokee Counties. North end of population is 6.5 miles southeast of Fort Payne on the trail to the Little River Falls Overlook. Most of the sampled hydrangeas are along Cherokee County 275 and Little River Canyon Rim Parkway.

Environment description: Shady rim of canyon.

Associated species: Quercus sp., Acer rubrum, Pinus sp., Liquidambar styraciflua, Vitis riparia.
Comment: A huge continuous population (likely at least 1000 genotypes) scattered throughout the area. The population covers at least 13 linear miles. Collections made from 26 distinct plants across an area spanning latitude 34.289106 deg. N to 34.394028 deg. N and longitude 85.61963 deg. W to 85.696668 deg. W. The GPS coordinates provided refer to NA 86196.01/acc. 784, the first plant sampled in the population. GPS coordinates for each sampled plant are available upon request.
