Locality: Area between Bogard Buttes and Caribou Wilderness approximately 20 miles west of Eagle Lake, on USGS Bogard Buttes 7.5-minute quad map T31N R7E including SW1/4 Sec. 11, NE1/4 Sec. 13, N1/2 Sec. 14 and NE1/4 NE1/4 Sec. 15, Lassen County

Environment description: Margins and interiors of (+/-) dry, volcanic rock fields. Talus outcroppings, among boulders in fissures and on low ridges, across variable slopes (5-40 degrees) and aspects (east, west, south and northeast) with majority of sites in low-relief, except for irregular surfaces within lava fields. Elevations ranging from 1944 to 2023 (meters). Full sun or patchy shade.
Number of plants sampled: 51
Associated species: Forested areas of Abies concolor, Pinus jeffreyi and Pinus ponderosa. The most consistently present associates were Angelica breweri and Penstemon deustus. Other characteristic associates included Ageratina occidentalis, Chamaebatiaria millefolium, Holodiscus discolor var. glabrescens, Chrysolepis sempervirens, Prunus emarginata, and Purshia tridentata. Further associates included Brickellia grandiflora, Elymus elymoides, Ericameria bloomeri, Kelloggia galioides, Penstemon neotericus, Populus tremuloides, Ribes cereum and R. roezlii, Sambucus nigra ssp. caerulea, Stipa (occidentalis var. californicum), and Symphoricarpos rotundifolius.
Comment: Collection from seven areas from four mile sections with the greatest distance between two areas sampled estimated at 1.9 miles. Total of 51 plants sampled. Population abundance: occasional. Population distribution: irregular. Collection assisted by Beth Corbin.
