Parents of CP 08-1968 were the two CP sugarcane breeding lines CP 01-1178 (female) and CP 00-1301 (male). Grandparents on the female side were CP 84-1198 and CP 82-1172, and on the male side were CP 75-1632 and CP 89-2143. Known great grandparents on the female side were CP 70-1133, CP 72-2086, CP 75-1091, and CP 75-1283 and on the male side were CP 68-1067, CP 70-1133, CP 72-2086, and CP 81-1254. Of the grandparents and great grandparents, there were five successful commercial sugarcane cultivars (CP 70-1133, CP 72-2086, CP 81-1254, CP 84-1198, and CP 89-2143) in Florida. Known great-great grandparents were CP 52-68, CP 57-603, CP 57-614, CP 62-374, CP 63-588, CP 68-1026, CP 68-1067, CP 70-1133, CP 70-1233, and CP 72-1210. There were seven commercial cultivars among its great-great grandparents: CP 52-68 that was released for commercial production in Louisiana, CP 56-63, CP 57-603, CP 62-374, CP 63-588, CP 70-1133, and CP 72-1210 in Florida. Of these ancestral cultivars, CP 63-588, CP 70-1133 and CP 72-1210 were the most widely grown sugarcane cultivars in Florida from 1980 to 1991.
