Locality: Dixon County: T29N R5E SW 1/4 SW 1/4 Sec. 22 - just south of Martinsburg approximately 2.8 miles on south side of Nebraska highway 20 near intersection of highway 9.

Environment description: Roadside collection. North-facing slope - 40 degrees. Associated with Bromus inermis, Melilotus officinals, Juniperus virginiana, Mimosa quadrivalvis, Brickellia eupatorioides, and Ratibida pinnata.
Number of plants sampled: 32
Comment: Noted approximately 250-325 specimens of Baptisia at collection site. Peak bloom occurred on 06/10/2016 (blue flowers). Length of inflorescences averaged approximatley 17" in length. The longest inflorescence noted measured 30" in length.

Narrative
Germplasm likely represents cultivated material of unknown origin that has successfully established a reproductive population in Northeast Nebraska. In 1974 and 1989, road construction resulted in the sowing of grasses and forbes. According to the Nebraska Dept. of Transportation, neither seeding included Baptisia. However, this does not rule out the possibility of a seed mixing contamination via seed bulking, planting, or labeling.
