Environment description: Rocky, very shallow soils. Growing on both north, southeast, and west-facing slopes in association with Quercus muehlenbergii, Quercus stellata, Juniperus virginiana, Cercis canadensis, Delphinium carolinianum, Echinacea sp., Fraxinus americana, and Yucca sp.
