`Gypsy Rose? Flor de Mayo (FM) common bean (Reg. no. CV- , PI -) cultivar was developed by Michigan State University AgBioResearch were released in 2014 as high-yielding FM seed type adapted to northern production zones. Gypsy Rose was developed using the pedigree breeding method to the F4 generation followed by pure line selection for disease, agronomic, seed and cooking traits. In 3-years of field trials, Gypsy Rose yielded 3566 kg/ ha, flowered in 49 d and matured in 105 d on average. Plants averaged 49 cm for canopy height, with lodging resistance score of 3.3 and seed weight of 30.4 g /100 seed. Gypsy Rose combines high yield potential with adaptation to northern production areas. It possesses resistance to Bean common mosaic virus (BCMV) and intermediate resistance to race 22:2 of bean rust [incited by Uromyces appendiculatus (Pers.:Pers.) Unger]. Gypsy Rose produces seed that meets industry standards for packaging and canning in the Flor de Mayo seed class.

Description:
Gypsy Rose, tested as MSU bean breeding line R11806 was developed from the cross between MSU breeding lines X07710 and X07714. X07710 was derived from the cross of FM99016/Sedona; and X07714 was derived from the cross of FM99021/Sedona pink bean variety. The overall purpose of the cross was to develop locally adapted upright Flor de Mayo seed type for production in temperate bean production areas.
