Environment description: Dry, pine-oak-hickory woods. Growing in association with Pinus sp., Liquidambar styraciflua, Fraxinus americana, Rhus typhina, Acer rubrum, Quercus stellata, and Carya sp.
Comment: Fruits perfectly round, very ripe, and pinkish-red in color. Actively dropping at time of collection. The only specimens of this species noted during entire trip throughout northern Mississippi, parts of Arkansas, and northwest Alabama. There were two specimens a few feet from each other, but I suspect they were not genetically unique from each other due to the suckering nature of the species. Considering there was decent fruit production there must have been another Prunus sp. nearby.
