  • Georgi (1775) and Pallas (1776), participants in the same Siberian expedition, applied different names to the same species, since Pallas seems to have changed his name during publication of his Reise (Betula fusca on p. 173, referencing Anhang no. 133, which became B. fruticosa on p. 758)
  • while Georgi's name has priority by 1 year, it has never been adopted at species rank, but to preserve usage of B. fruticosa will require a formal proposal
