Environment description: Ravine edge.
Comment: Santa Rosa County Odd variant of Hamamelis virginiana, exceedingly rhizomatous (contra the published characterizations of the speceis). As runnery at least as H. ovalis, yet yellow flowered and blooming in late October-early November. What's weird is the bloom on the leaves, which aren't exactly felty (as is H. ovalis), but singularly odd for a virginiana. They look from afar as if someone has sprinkled talc on the plants; They seem to be a genuine pyrophyte of the Pinus palustris/Aristida complex. Standard virginiana is a mixed hardwood species. It grows along with the R. viscosum listed at #1 [NA 81419];
