Narrative
This is an isolate of Citrus variegation virus (
Ilarvirus citrus variegation virus
) obtained from
Dr Mark Hilf
, USDA-ARS US Horticultural Research Laboaratory, Fort Pierce, FL. According to
Dr Steve Garnsey
, retired from USHRL, "CVV 2 is a mild isolate of CVV we found in the field and it is described in 2 papers in the 9th IOCV Proceedings. Probably more info than you need!" (email dated 06/24/2010). According to Garnsey
et al
(1984): "The discovery site [near Dundee, FL] was a replanted 16-ha block of young, nucellar navel orange trees grafted on Carrizo rootstock. The original planting had been grapefruit on rough lemon rootstock. While indexing the navel trees for an exocortis experiment, we collected several [symptomless] rough lemon root sprouts remaining from the previous planting." These rough lemon root sprouts contained the CVV 2 isolate. See the refefence for addiitonal details. (RR Krueger, 05/18/2012)
