Locality: North Carolina: Buncombe County: Fairview, at historic Sherrill's Inn on Hwy 74, end of Clarke Lane.
Comment: Seed collected from original planted tree as well as from two other plants in naturalized population occurring in vicinity. The original tree has an unknown origin, but planting date suspected to be early 1900s. It is the current NC champion specimen, and the naturalized population is the only record of this taxon known for the state.
