Environment description: Dry hillside near highway covered in somewhat dwarfed trees, shrubs, and dryland perennials, 45 degrees slope, rocky clay, scubby trees and shrubs -- might term this an "oak savanna"
Comment: Compact shrub, 3.5-4' tall with relatively dark, glossy leaves occupying a searingly dry, exposed hillside near the highway. Covered in red hipships bearing small glands or spines, some fruits conspicuously predated by gall wasp common to roses in Caninae such as R. canina and R. eglanteria.
